Role-playing games (RPGs) are the top grossing genre on mobile. In 2020, RPGs alone generated 21.3% of all mobile game revenues, with Eastern Asia making up 72% of that amount. Most effective RPGs have been based around an existing IP, and even though in-app purchases have been the monetization methods of the past, hybrid monetization is on the rise.
We worked together with Newzoo to create this report that takes a good, hard look at what gamers worldwide love so much about RPGs. The information inside provides valuable insight to how successful RPGs gain new players and maintain their interest with engaging in-game content, and optimized ad strategies, which can be especially challenging in the years to come with recent privacy updates.
